Wish List Wednesday: Teepee for Kids

So, I don’t have kids, but if I did this would definitely be in my home.

I am a firm believer that children’s toys and entertainment don’t need to be cheap, plastic and horrendous to look at. For anyone who does have kids, especially small children, you know their things will be around the house and not hidden away in a tidy manner like you hope for. Why not make their play areas a part of your decor?

This black and white stripped teepee is so adorable, chic and I’m pretty sure any kid would love hanging out in there.

The first time I saw this idea, or something similar, was actually in Kourtney Kardashian’s home. Say what you will about them, but the eldest sister sure does have a talent for interior design and she absolutely approves of this little gem.

When I was younger my sister and I each had these hideous, plastic tarp “tents”- mine Barbie theme and hers a Barney theme and we LOVED them. Mine became my own little home and I spent most of my life in there, I was a content kid. My poor mother though. She must have had a nervous break down having these two big-ass plastic monstrosities in her family room. Sorry mom! You’re a team player! I’m guessing if we had these fun teepees we would have been equally happy, and she would have been thrilled pitchin’ these bad boys in her family room.

This particular teepee can be found on Etsy at the shop called B.E. Little You and Me. They create several different patterns in this same teepee- but this one was definitely my favourite! So sophisticated. I think this could go great in any room in the house that you have been forced to dedicate to your child…i.e.: their nursery/bedroom, your family room, basement etc.

Now that I am on the topic of chic childrens toys, here are some other of my favourite “non-plastic” entertainment:

Would you not have been the coolest kid in the entire world if you had a wicked dollhouse like these? Amazing right? I am seriously considering buying one for my dog and seeing if he’ll live in it.

Precious little wooden kitchens. They’re adorable and keep kids busy for forever! Especially if you are cooking dinner, they can be pretending to cook their own.

You don’t need an ugly wooden box that says TOYS on it to keep your kids things organized. Opt for stylist baskets or bins to blend in with the rest of your homes decor.

I love American Girls. I have two. Don’t judge me, it’s called nostalgia. They are so much more fun than barbies and they have the best “furniture” and accessories! I would have no problem with my child having a bunch of American Girl things set up. In fact, I can’t promise I wouldn’t play with them while they were asleep.

You can even make your yard a little kid friendly and whimsical with these amazing fairy doors! How fun are they!? The kids will get a kick out of it, and I just think they look so cute. Try Etsy for a HUGE variety on fairy doors.

  1. I agree- no kids here- and the thought of having ugly bulky plastic toys strewn about makes me shiver, although, if the kids truly have imagination AND play with them, I guess that’s selfish of me. I ADORE the little fairy doors on the tree- and the teepee- I want to sit in there 🙂
