What To Wear To A Summer Wedding

Summer is the season for weddings! I love going to weddings I think they’re so much fun, and they tend to be the best parties! Here is my list of what to wear for different summer weddings:

Casual Wedding:

This summery 1960’s dress is pretty and femine and can be casual or dressy. The A-line structure of this dress is flattering on all body types as it accentuates the narrowest part of a woman (her waist) and flairs out at the hips. The wide straps give the dress great structure and the polka dot pattern is fun but still sophisticated.

To pair with this dress a great nude peep toe heel like the one above (buy here) doesn’t take away from the dress, and your legs will look like they go on for miles. Because this dress is busy enough, you want something subtle on your feet. Another great option are these white low wedged peep toes (buy here) that are very pretty and delicate next to the dress.

I suggested this white clutch (buy here) to pair with your dress because it is such a fun contract with the little gold skull detailing against the super feminine dress.

Formal Wedding:

Some people have over the top, extravagant weddings that call for the invitees to dress up (very formal, black tie etc.) When asked to dress formal to a wedding I would suggest a floor length dress -like the beautiful red one shown here– as appose to a short dress. Long just seems more formal and appropriate.

As a shoe choice I would pair something like these amazing BCBG heels (buy here), and because there is so much going on with that shoe, they would be the only “jewelery” I’d wear. Another option is to go with a simple black heel like these Rihanna for River Island ones (buy here) that are classy, yet comfortable and not too much.

As a clutch I would wear something simple, but that matches your shoes. You want to have neutral pieces against this firey gown. This YSL clutch (buy here) goes well with both the heels I have chosen.

Beach Wedding:

A beach wedding is all about well…the beach and being outdoors near the water. Go with something, easy and breezy thats in a fun color like this Alice + Olivia high low dress (buy here).

Now, the beach is not a practical place for heels- but if you’d like to try wearing some, all the power to you. I suggest a cute sandal like the Nine West pair (buy here) I have chosen here, or even better, go barefoot! This is the one event where you can get away with being barefoot, so I say take advantage of that.

If you would like to bring a clutch I would go with something that is the opposite color to what you are wearing, yet still goes. This orange would look beautiful with a robins blue clutch like the one I found here. (buy here)

Evening Wedding:

Evening weddings tend to be a little more formal. So, whip out your good dress and good shoes! This short, knee length lace dress (buy here) is amazing. It is so elegant for an evening wedding, but at the same time is very light and perfect for summer.

Pair this girly dress with an edgy, dressy shoe. These spiked Louboutins (buy here) are amazing, and will look UNREAL with this dress.

Since your entire outfit is black, choose a bright colored clutch that will really stand out against your outfit, like this Charlotte Olympia clutch (buy here).

Outdoor Wedding:

Outdoor weddings are a lot of fun (even though they can be unpredictable with the weather) so dress fun! I love this one shoulder coral dress (buy here), it is THE color of summer.

Sometimes an outdoor wedding can be held on a lawn, and you don’t want your pointy heels going through the ground every time you take a step. So, wear a wedge instead- make sure they are fun like these awesome leopard wedges (buy here)!

Your outfit is already so bright and cheerful, why stop there? This Alexander McQueen two toned knuckle clutch (buy here) would look amazing with your outdoor wedding outfit!

WORD TO THE WISE: Don’t be an ass and wear white to someone elses wedding. Unless you are specifically asked to wear white- wear another color and let the bride have her day and be the only one shining in white!
